BACKER ROD (Open Cell)

Open Cell Backer Rod is a polyurethane foam used to fill large checks and gaps. It controls the depth of sealant required and provides support for chinking and sealants. It's designed primarily to act as a "bond-breaker" and promote two-point adhesion (see diagram), giving the joint and sealing material the ability to compress and expand as materials move.

The Open Cell Polyurethane is similar in function to the Closed Cell Polyethylene however it does have a few differences.  Open Cell Backer Rod can be used in both hot and cold installations.  It allows air to reach both sides of sealant offering a faster and more uniform cure.  This is especially true for one part non-sag sealants however, do not use in floor joints with self leveling sealants or in traffic areas where additional support is required.  Open Cell construction also eliminates the outgassing and cold flow problem associated with Closed Cell construction.

Opening must be free of all contaminants, loose materials, dry and free of frost.  Seat rod to depth recommended by sealant manufacturer.


                            


TECHNICAL DATA:
Timberwood Supply Backer Rod is chemically inert and will resist gasoline, oil, and most solvents. Product is odorless and will not stain.
