BACKER ROD (Closed Cell)

This Closed Cell Backer Rod is a soft, resilient polyethylene foam used to fill large checks and gaps. It controls the depth of sealant required and provides support for chinking and sealants. It's designed primarily to act as a "bond-breaker" and promote two-point adhesion (see diagram), giving the joint and sealing material the ability to compress and expand as materials move. Sealants do not adhere to the backer rod - only to the material surfaces of the joint - allowing for movement without damaging the sealing material.

The use of Timberwood Supply's Backer Rod is a must for gaps greater than 3/16"  as it will greatly reduce the need to maintain and re-apply sealants.  Other practical applications include sealing air gaps in and around any portion of your home, particularly gaps that allow pests to enter basement and attic spaces.

A closed-cell backer rod has a water resistant outer skin making it more moisture resistant than open-cell backer rods.  It is compatible
with most known cold applied sealants such as urethane, silicone, acrylic, butyl, polysulfides, latex, and chinking sealants.  Backer Rod should be installed with a roller or blunt, flat-sided tool. For best results, do not puncture, fold or overly stretch the product. Opening must be free of all contaminants, loose materials, dry and free of frost.  Seat rod to depth recommended by sealant manufacturer.


                            


TECHNICAL DATA:
Timberwood Supply Backer Rod is chemically inert and will resist gasoline, oil, and most solvents. Product will not stain or adhere to sealants.
